Growing up I was like mom number two to my little brothers and the neighbor boy. People also told me that I should be a teacher and balked at them, wanting nothing to do with it. I was interested in all things creative and liked drawing, photography and music. I always hated sports and despised the fact that I was always put as the leader of group activities.

I was born and raised in Texas and blessed with being homeschooled which means the freedom to be outside and in the pool for most of the day. My mom used to make me get out of the water to “just get one class done” and then I could get back in. I was very fortunate to be raised in a household that encouraged me to be myself and be unique. If i wanted to wear dresses and tiaras for the day, or if I wanted to climb trees or roll around the mud that was fine too. My dad was happy to teach me how to change the oil in a car and help build a treehouse. The only stipulation placed on my experience was that I learned something that I continued to grow and be myself.

Fast forward to becoming an adult and I didn’t now how to fit into a corporate job, how to just put a face on and do the same boring thing every day. Every job I had through high school and college lasted a little over a year as I quickly become bored, climbed as high as I could go and was ready for the next thing. I went to a community college for photography and advertising but have no idea what to do with that either.

A mentor I had when working on The Community Hospice once told me that I’m a “multi-potentialite”. That I had the potential to be many different things and to never let anybody tell me that I have to be one thing only. When I first tried scuba diving I was working part time at The ALS Center and part time at Samaritan Hospital so that I wasn’t doing the same thing every day. Despite loving water, I hated the scuba course and wanted to quit. Momma didn’t raise a quitter so I stuck it out and told myself that I would finish this so I could say I did it, but I will never dive again.

Turns out by the time class was over and I was just diving in the lake, I fell in love. Both my bosses and my coworkers were all so proud of me for overcoming my fear and I felt absolutely on cloud nine! I suddenly had this new confidence in life and went on my first dive trip to Key Largo, FL and then took a weekend trip to Dutch Springs to earn my Advanced. I was obsessed and I was becoming this new confident person who left my piano and sketch book at home to go explore the world!

The opportunity to purchase Seguin’s Scuba Center came up and in the summer of 2018, just two years after getting certified, as an Advanced Open Water diver and excited young woman, I started Kraken Scuba! I immediately fell in love with teaching new divers and helping others overcome their fears and I haven’t looked back a single day since. I guess I was meant to be a teacher and leader all along. Turns out that advertising work in college has paid off too!

The dive shop came with some of the most amazing staff in the world who have taken me under their wing to teach me not just all about scuba but business and life experiences as well. It is thanks to them that I have been able to turn this passion into such a successful business and more than that, an amazing community.

Those same guys are still on this team with me and many more have joined the ranks as I myself have climbed the ranks of diving professional levels, eager to learn everything I can to help make me a better diver, leader and instructor. In 2024 I expanded this family even more by bringing in my best friend Chris as a partner to help me run things. He has allowed this to whole shop to continue growing and brings new people into our community every day.

We are just two scuba obsessed people who want to bring all the other scuba lovers together so we can all just be obsessed together. Come join us!
